Ex Longhorn Travis Helgeson Wins ITA All American in Tulsa

Former UT tennis player Travis Helgeson, now playing for Georgia, won the prestigious ITA All American Tournament in Tulsa over the weekend. Helgeson, who came from behind to beat USC sophomore Robert Farah, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, was a two time All American at Texas his freshman and sophomore years, but transferred to Georgia and helped the Bulldogs win the NCAA Championship last year. I don't know the full story behind the transfer, but last year there was an interesting article in an Atlanta newspaper which stated that UT coach Michael Center is no longer on speaking terms with Georgia coach Manny Diaz. At any rate, it has to hurt for UT tennis fans, seeing Helgeson playing so well for Georgia. Full draws of the ITA tournament are here.

Has to make you wonder what happens in Longhorn land as they lost another Top Player after the 06 Season to LSU (Michael Venus). College tennis though is a very transient sport and you will a ton of transfers for one reason or another and it usually is for stupid/childish stuff
